Join us at 8:20am on 5/14 from the Lake Hiawatha Preserve Park for hill repeats on one of the most underrated hills in Florida….Rainbow Lane:) This hill is roughly 0.50 miles in length and climbs 183 feet, averaging 7% grade and hitting 10-12% grades in two parts of the climb. What makes this hill unique versus other hills like Sugarloaf Mountain is the dead-end cul-de-sac start point which gives hill repeats a definite start point. At the top of Rainbow lane, you hit the bike trail paralleling grassy lake road which riders turn left on then kick hard on the steepest part to the top. Riders will then turn around at the Overlook at Grassy Lake neighborhood entrance median then head back down to the bottom. This gives riders a set distance for recovery in between repeats (0.67 miles). It also challenges riders to focus on transitioning their shifting and handling, going from the top of the hill, turning around, then going back up. There is no run in start like other hills.
The format for this ride will be everyone will ride together at an easy warm up pace from the start to and from the hill (7 miles). After the entire group sees the climb together, we will then complete hill repeats. Riders of similar strengths will pair up and ride at their own ability levels. We’d like to see everyone go for at least 5-repeats, with more advanced riders going for 10-15 repeats. Coach will instruct how to pace each hill with power or time for all of the repeats.
This ride will immediately follow the Park Run for those looking to bike and run today. Look forward to seeing you there!
